Regional league calendars are now springing up and we can start looking at the season ahead in earnest. Napier are scheduled to kick off SUS at home to Heriot-Watt and St Andrews on Saturday 11th November and will be looking to recapture the form that saw them capture SUS' "best of the rest" title in the league. Napier have only been able to hold one practice session so far this season due to "issues" with their Students Association and sports centre and lost most of their small senior squad over the summer. For their part, Heriot-Watt enter the post-Lorna Provan era, whilst St Andrews will attempt to end a run of three last place league finishes in the last four seasons. Aberdeen at home to Dundee and Napier takes place a week later.
Keele also start their NEUAL campaign at home. NEUAL is shaping up to be a fascinating contest this year. York are defending both the indoor league and championship, but Bradford won NEUAL Outdoors, and Keele and Durham were the best place NEUAL unis at BUSA Indoors and Outdoors respectively, Durham picking up BUSA team bronze for their efforts. Keele line up against Lancaster and Sheffield on 11th November. A week later Bradford host the first Sheffield derby as Sheffield are join by league new boys Sheffield Hallam, bringing NEUAL up to 9 teams - another first.
Elsewhere Surrey at home to Brunel and Sussex kicks off SEAL also on 11th November. Reading make their SEAL bow with a very tough assignment away to reigning champions Imperial, Surrey are the third team in that match in early December. In BUTTS Oxford have been pencilled in as the first hosts on 18th November, whilst SWWU has (at time of writing) yet to declare any match dates. In the Irish Inter Varsity League, Dublin City Uni are hosting the first leg, also on 11th November.
