York and Keele's senior sides set up what is virtually a title showdown on 10th Feb, by both picking up their third consecutive maximum points in league matches on 27th Jan. In fact the two matches produced remarkably similar sets of team scores. York and Keele (2158 and 2121) had far too much for second places Leeds and Durham (1997-1995) and third places Sheffield and Bradford (1829-1818).
Georgina Porter (558) led York home with three gents in the 530s. Mark Honess (535) top scored for Leeds and Louise Smith (531) for Sheffield. Andy O'Connor (561) led Keele home and both York and Keele are now on nine points from a possible nine. York have nudged their aggregate advantage to 40. Perhaps surprisingly, the senior table is in exactly the same order after these two matches, although a definite gap has opened up between the top half York, Keele, Durham, Leeds and the rest.
The same four teams (albeit in a different order) have also stretched away in the novice table. Here too the two sets of results were remarkably similar with Leeds and Durham gaining narrow revenge wins over York and Keele [correction below], Sheffield and Bradford both distant thirds.
Additional info 06/Feb/07 - Ed. With Robin Lowe's (Keele) score upgraded from 469 to 496, what a difference a digit swap makes. Keele's novices in fact scored 1419, seven more than Durham to win their match and Keele now sit top of the table on 10 points, ahead of Leeds and Durham on aggregate.
