Match 1 of SWWU was hosted by Exeter on 25th November. David Jenner now has a successor in the SWWU organiser's chair, with John McGrath (Swansea) taking over the honours.
For the team results from (and tables following) SWWU match 1, see the SWWU 2017/18 page.
At home in match 1, Exeter produced a fairly comfortable win. Their total of 2172 saw them finish around 90 clear of a scrap for second between Swansea and Plymouth, with the Welsh side taking second spot on 2085 and Plymouth nudged into third despite a score 2081. Back in fourth were Cardiff on 2027. Top scorer in the match was Alex Rowe (Plymouth) on 567, whilst Tom Braxton (Cardiff) scored 561.
Exeter got their title defence off to a good solid start, not too far from 2200 despite no individual 560. Third place for Plymouth in a match is their best senior SWWU result since March 2013. This match also featured a first ever appearance for Bouremouth, albeit with a solo archer this time. Sarah Shahzad scored 441 on a barebow and picked up 3 league points which could yet prove interesting in Bournemouth's season to come.
Bristol's novice team also got their title defence off to a good start with a win on 1273. Similar to the senior result, Swansea finished narrowly ahead of Plymouth in second, 1220-1201. There were six complete novice and senior teams present, a figure which will hopefully be exceeded in SWWU matches yet to be scheduled.
