Outdoor Round Up [13/Jun/18]

Lilleshall now looms large - remember to bring with you everything you will need for the annual Shropshire shenanigans. Competitor lists and latest scores, are/will be up on ianseo, for BUCS Outdoors and the H2H Event.

Whilst SWWU usually has more of an outdoor element (for the past couple of years SWWU has had 3 legs taken from outdoor competitions) the other 4 leagues typically have one free standing competition. Outdoor season can coincide with exam season, meaning that some events are less than well attended. There have also been numerous friendlies taking place, partly for some of the participants to get the qualifying scores required to enter BUCS Outdoors. UKSAA would always like to know about friendly fixtures and would be happy to publish results.

SSS Outdoors (WA1440 and Metrics on 27th April in Edinburgh) was very sparsely attended and on top of that the results document does not identify the universities of those who shot - though most can be inferred quite easily. No meaningful team results could be extracted, but top individuals by a distance were 1100s from Johanna Meyer (Edinburgh) and Paul Ross (St Andrews) on 1131 and 1107. Petr Manas (Edinburgh) was top novice on 1045.

NEUAL Outdoors (York, Hereford and Bristols on 12th May in UCLan) have published a PDF of their results. David Shaw was the top York archer in both senses with 991, just ahead of Matthew Gardiner (Bradford) on 970. Heather Flint (Newcastle) finished a solitary point ahead of Sarah Wilson (York) 910 to 909 on the Hereford. Paula Uusnakki (Liverpool) was by far the top scoring novice. UKSAA calculations indicate that York were the winners on 3182, Bradford second on 3069, with hosts UCLan in third, a touch under 2900. Liverpool's novices were top ahead of Bradford.

BUTTS Outdoors (St. George, Albion, Windsor on 26th May in Loughborough) proved a nailbiting battle between Warwick and Birmingham. Birmingham came out on top with 3102, but the margin was a mere 6 points as Warwick took second on 3096. Oxford were third but a little way behind on 2566 - still the Dark Blues best BUTTS position for two years. Hannah Burnage (Warwick) scored 830 against 816 from Eleanor Brug (Cambridge) and 810 from Rebekah Tipping (Birmingham). Conor Hall (Birmingham) was top gent on 796, with Sherman Ip (Warwick) leading the chasing pack of gents. Top novices were Sesha Shayan (Nottingham) 762 and Rebecca Radcliffe (Loughborough) 742.

SEAL Outdoors (720 and H2H on 28th May at Guildford AC) was won by Surrey who beat Southampton in the final. Southampton pulled off an epic comeback in their semi-final against Imperial, having lost the first two sets, the Saints won the last three. Top individuals in the 70m ranking round were Chris O'Connell (Surrey) on 607, with Nick Wilson (Southampton) missing out on 600 by a point. On the SEAL website, League organiser Stephen Fawcett has published results from all SEAL Outdoor championships of the past. To date there have been 10, two regulation team of four events (2006 and 2007) and eight 720/H2Hs (from 2011 onwards). London have the most wins with four. Southampton have been second a staggering 9 times without winning - including qualifying for and then losing in 7 H2H finals in 8 years.

Results can be seen on the relevant SSS, NEUAL, BUTTS and SEAL 17/18 pages. SWWU 17/18 will be resolved at Lilleshall, with Exeter heavy favourites to win overall.
