In SEAL, there were wins for Reading and Southampton, whilst Nottingham picked up maximum points in BUTTS. George Harding (Nottingham) hits 592 again to equal the All Unis record he set only last week.
Reading, Essex and London were involved in a close match on Sun 30th Jan, all three sides within 70 points of each other. Michael Judd top scored for hosts Essex with 579, but although he outscored everyone else in the match by 30 points, it was not enough to win. A solid team performance saw Reading score 2153 ahead of Essex's 2105. London were close behind finishing on 2075. In the equivalent novice fixture, Essex scored 1320 to win comfortably, Ben Cemlyn top scorer on 487, with Reading edging London into third by 7 points, 1136 to 1129.
Sussex played host to Southampton only, as Kent recorded a DNS. This match was not closely contested however, Southampton winning the novice match by around 400 and the novice match by around 500. Sam Bird's 570 saw Southampton to a senior total of 2177, James Taule (Southampton) was top novice on 512.
Only 5 of the scheduled 12 SEAL matches have scores against them and remarkably Essex have completed their program, sitting well clear in both senior and novice tables - they look likely to claim novice team medals of some colour. Southampton, Imperial and Reading are still unbeaten in the senior table, see the latest SEAL tables and results.
Also on Sat 5th Feb, Nottingham won again in BUTTS and once again George Harding notched an eye-watering 592, this time with 53 tens, 6 nines and 1 eight. Nottingham's total of 2261 was just enough to beat Warwick who were second again with 2241. This keeps an element of pressure on Nottingham in the overall standings. When BUTTS reconvenes on Sat 26th Mar for the Indoor Champs, if Warwick are to overhaul Nottingham they must finish 77 points or two (or more) places ahead of Nottingham. Third place is now incredibly close between Cambridge and Loughborough, the pair level on league points and with virtually identical aggregates.
George Harding may have one eye on the BUTC Bray I record of 287, but there were other high scorers in this match. Mat Cole (Loughborough) shot 582 and there were 578's from Heather Reynolds (Cambridge) and Chris Fry (Nottingham), Andrew Shreeves (Warwick) a point behind. There were also 570+s for Jorge Lindley (Warwick) and Jack Sobey (Oxford). Top novice was Stylianos Hadjipanayi (Nottingham) on 540.
Nottingham won the fourth novice match and a stumble from Loughborough, who finished seventh in this match, means they have secured the BUTTS novice title with the Indoor Champs still to go. Warwick were second novice team in the leg, but Loughborough remain second in the table, two points ahead of Birmingham, see the latest BUTTS tables and results.
