The BUCS Southern Qualifier took place on Saturday in Crawley. Following the results from this fixture, the final list of qualifiers for the BUCS National Finals was determined. SEAL match 4 and (most of) SWWU match 2 were also extracted from these numbers.
Ladies recurve saw a two way battle at the top between Rebecca Martin (Bristol) and defending BUCS Indoor ladies champion Jaspreet Sagoo (East London). Martin top scored with 588 as against Sagoo's 586 - the highest two scores by a female recurves at a BUCS event for 12 years. In fact these are the 3rd and 4th highest ever. Sara Rubio (Southampton) hit 575 in third, 12 clear of the field. On the gents side, there was a Warwick 1-2, with Tom Hall on 590 and Sherman Ip on 582. Behind them were Jonas Skackauskas (Brunel) and Ben Trudgill (Exeter) in the upper 570s.
In gents compound, William Shackley (Swansea) scored 588, 2 ahead of Chris Woodgate (Warwick), while Nicole Almond (Swansea) finished top of the ladies compound. Top longbows were Ashay Alok (Bath) and Emily Williams (South Wales). David Priestley and Anna Blanchard (both Bath) were top barebows.
Warwick were the top men's team on 1734, whilst Southampton were the top southern ladies on 1683. Warwick were the third team in qualifiers to beat the old gents team mark. Exeter and Swansea both hit 1678, whilst on the ladies side Bristol scored 1653, 3 ahead of London. Oxford were the top novice team ahead of Southampton, Portsmouth and Exeter.
BUCS have also published the final list of those names who have qualified for the finals event, in Bristol on 18th March. For both men's and women's qualifiers, there were 74 recurves, 8 longbows, 16 compounds and 28 barebows. Gents recurves from 529 up made it, with the ladies from 501 and up. With 16 spaces, all 14 lady compounds qualified.
The SEAL and SWWU tables will be updated on UKSAA shortly. The extracted match results produced wins for Southampton and Exeter.
Additionally results for 4 recent NEUAL matches (E5, W5, E6 and W6) have been published on the NEUAL website and there were wins for Bradford, Liverpool, York and Lancaster. Bradford's 2178 and Lancaster's 2197 were the high scorers. Tom Wilson (Lancaster) was the top scorer across the four matches on 568. Results from NEUAL match N3, SSS match 5 and Indoor Champs have yet to be published.
