Before we get to SEAL match 1, BUCS have made the announcement that entries are open for BUCS Indoor Qualifying from Tuesday 29th November (yesterday!) until Thursday 15th December - which is just over a fortnight away. Having only just made the announcement a few days ago, this gives clubs less time than usual to get organised.
To be eligible for Regional Qualifying, the minimum score requirement is still in place - 400 or 277 for experienced or novice recurves. See the BUCS Indoor section, whilst for complete and and official info, the equivalent page on the BUCS website. The Entry Information document on the BUCS website contains a full list of which unis are headed to Sheffield or Crawley - although there are no major surprises.
Today is the last day in November and therefore the last day that you can shoot scores for E-League Round 2. November's scores can be submitted up until Monday 5th December at the latest.
SEAL got started over the weekend and in match 1 there was a 55 point win for London who got their title defence off to the best possible start with maximum league points courtesy of a 2178. Only 32 points separated 2nd place down to 5th. Imperial finished runners up in the match with 2123, with Surrey on 2107. Southampton finished fourth on 2094, just 3 ahead of East Anglia who were fifth. See the early season table on the SEAL 16/17 page for the full breakdown.
Unusually, although there were 5 scores over the 560 mark, none were for clubs who finished in the podium positions. Sara Rubio (Southampton) scored 566, whilst Klara Krouthen and Nickil Shah (both East Anglia) hit 565 and 561 respectively in East Anglia's highest SEAL team total to date. Top scorer in the match was Matthew Hill (Portsmouth) who scored 572, whilst Eleri Farr (Queen Mary) added 564. Despite the efforts of Hill and Farr, Portsmouth and Queen Mary finished 7th and 10th in the match.
In the novice match, Imperial finished over 120 points clear at the top with 1403. Brunel beat Portsmouth by only 3, with Southampton's novices finishing in a competitive fourth place - mirroring their seniors.
The next set of SEAL fixtures will be held over the weekend of the 10th and 11th of December. A new club at Anglia Ruskin is scheduled to join SEAL this year and they should make their debut then. They will also be added to the Club Directory in due course.
