Today is the last day for entries to BUTC. If you haven't entered yet, you'd better get in touch with Lancaster double quick.
Last weekend (11th/12th Feb) saw SEAL match three as well as the fifth batch of NEUAL fixtures (E5, W5 and N3). Results from SEAL have been published, see SEAL 16/17 page, with the NEUAL scores to follow.
London's consistency (2188, 2158, 2176) keeps their perfect SEAL record this season intact with a third win. London were anchored by Dominic Collis who scored 562 as they held off Southampton by 31 points. A little way behind in third place were East Anglia, 9 points over 2100, whilst Imperial were 9 points below it, in fourth spot. This is East Anglia's first "podium" finish in a senior SEAL leg and they had more cause to celebrate as Klara Krouthen (East Anglia) was the top scorer in the match on 566. Surrey and Portsmouth were fifth and sixth and the last two teams over 2000, with Matthew Sharpe contributing 561 for Surrey.
The result sees Southampton move up to 40 points and leapfrog Imperial, now on 39, in to second place. London now hold a 5 point lead with two matches to go in an attempt to win their fourth senior SEAL title in five years. East Anglia have cut the gap to fourth placed Surrey from four points to two.
In the novice match Southampton recorded their first win of the season with 1525, well clear of Imperial on 1437, who were themselves well clear of London (1336) and Reading (1324). Top individual was Lukas Bastow (Southampton) on 524. Imperial continue to lead on 44 points, but Brunel (who were 2nd in matches 1 and 2) could only finish 9th in match 3. This saw Brunel's novices tumble from 3 league points ahead of Southampton's to 5 points behind them.
There were also NEUAL matches E5 (Bradford v Huddersfield), W5 (Liverpool v MMU Cheshire) and N3 (Sunderland v Durham v Teesside) in NEUAL over the weekend, but the results have not yet been released. A win for Bradford would put them top overall, with three Eastern Conference wins out of three.
This weekend coming (18th/19th Feb) is a busy one. SSS match 5, two more NEUAL matches (E6 York v Hull and W6 Keele v Lancaster) and BUTTS match 4. A top 4 finish will secure Edinburgh yet another SSS league title and they are one of the home teams in the fixture. Lancaster have the opportunity to go top of NEUAL if they win (with three Western Conference wins). Birmingham, already favourites to defend their BUTTS league title, will look to stretch their lead at the top. Can they break 2300 yet again?
