SEAL 2 kills off 2016 [30/Dec/16]

SEAL match 2 was the very last fixture of 2016. It was held on 10th/11th December with results published on UKSAA on the 15th - the report took a little longer to appear.

London were winners again, but with a reduced margin of victory over second place, who this time were Southampton. The match was competitive most of the way down the board, with 111 points covering the top 8 places. Imperial were third in the senior match and won the novice fixture.

London's winning total was 2158. Southampton, who were 4th in match 1, were second here on 2132, nine ahead of Imperial. Surrey missed out on 2100 by a point, with Reading also in the 2090s. Below them, East Anglia, Portsmouth and Sussex were 6th, 7th and 8th, all scoring well over 2000. Anglia Ruskin became SEAL team number 13, with their debut in this match. As might be expected with a brand new club, they were a little way off the pace, but a DNS meant they picked up 4 points.

Tom Hutchins (Reading) hit 573, the highest score in the match, whilst elsewhere, Klara Krouthen (East Anglia) shot 564. As in match 1, the top individual scores did not come from the top teams. No archer for the top 4 clubs broke 560 - indeed Southampton's 2132 was achieved with a top score of 547.

Imperial and Brunel were first and second in the novice match for the second time on 1366 and 1323. Reading and Southampton were third and fourth, with Reading also over 1300. Top novice was Sam Humphries (Portsmouth) on 503.

London are the early pace setters with two wins from two. With former champions Imperial, Southampton and Surrey all taking points off one another, London's lead has increased to 3 points as they look to win SEAL for the fourth time in five years. For the full tables, see the SEAL 16/17 page. SEAL match 3 isn't until the 11th/12th February.

Also the tables have been belatedly upated for SSS match 3, see the SSS 16/17 page. Edinburgh lead the senior table by 3 points with two league matches to go.

Birmingham, Exeter and Lancaster lead the other tables as 2016 splutters its last.
