BUTC is this weekend and all the latest info will be updated in the BUTC section of this site. Oxford bid for a third consecutive title at East Anglia.
The period around BUCS and BUTC is traditionally the busiest part of the competitive season, so here is a hastily written scramble through some fixtures you might have missed. Edinburgh wrapped up comfortable wins in SSS match 3 and SSS Indoors to complete an indoor SSS senior and novice team sweep. All 8 BUTTS teams exceded 2190, but Warwick came out on top. Warwick won BUTTS and E-League round 3 and hold 4 and 5 point leads respectively.
There were also matches extracted from BUCS scores (for SEAL, SWWU and NEUAL), though only SEAL have so far issued confirmed results.
Starting in Scotland, Edinburgh posted totals of 2208 and 2257 to comfortably win both the SSS League (3 matches instead of 4 this year) and SSS Indoors. Aberdeen were runners up in both with 2120 and 2134. Top scorers were all Edinburgh: Janos Peters, Johanna Meyer (with 576 and 570 at LM3), Vlado Hurban and Roy Hotrabhvanon (with 585 and 573 at Indoors). St Andrews finished third at LM3, but other results meant that Strathclyde finished third in the league, whilst Napier took third spot at the Indoors itself.
Edinburgh comfortably won the novice league match and Indoor champs, with Napier best of the rest both times.
Edinburgh will look to complete their first SSS clean sweep since 2012 at SSS Outdoors - this was also the last time that Edinburgh claimed a UK-wide student title.
Warwick, Oxford and Nottingham duked it out for top spot at BUTTS match 3, with Warwick taking the honours on 2271 and extending their lead. Oxford's 2260 meant they were second a mere 2 points ahead of Nottingham. Not far behind were Cambridge on 2228, one ahead of Loughborough. The bottom three teams all shot in 2190s. Birmingham and Derby finished 1-2 in the novice match are well ensconced in those positions in the novice table. Warwick lead the senior table on 24, Oxford on 20 and Nottingham on 17.
There were 579s from Tom Hall (Warwick) and Rob Gray (Nottingham Trent), with 577 and 574 from Charlie Birch and Ciprian Zahan (both Oxford). Shaun Rhodes (Derby) scored 574, with Richard Haydock (Nottingham) and Louis Richardson (Loughborough) both hitting 571. BUTTS' competitiveness is such that 79 points separated first from last in LM3 - the equivalent figure for SSS was 401 points.
Warwick also won in the E-League for Dec/Jan and with other results going their way, they now find themselves with a 5 point lead with 2 rounds to go. Telford scores will contribute to the February E-League and Warwick won the gents team event here. Individual gents recurve is a straight 3 way fight, whilst there are 5 women in with a realistic shout of the ladies title.
