Leap Ahead to 2016 [15/Sep/15]

The deadline for bids to host BUTC 2016 has been announced. Bids are due in by 17:00 on Friday 16th October. Clubs who might be interested in hosting are requested to get in touch with UKSAA at their earliest convenience. Emailing doesn't commit you to anything and if the preferred date of Saturday 5th March 2016 is coming up too fast, then there's always 2017 to think about.

East Anglia hosted the event last season and working closely in concert with BUTC title sponsor Clickers, the Norwich venue will host a high class field at the Beiter Hit-Miss Tournament on 18th October. Other recent BUTC hosts have been Southampton in 2014 and Lancaster in 2013.

Clubs looking to prepare for the white heat and yellow discs of BUTC would do well to invest in paper versions of the hit-miss target, now on sale through from Clickers for about 60p each. You may need someone looking down a scope to shout "boom".

This season's E-League is open for business, with Round 1 comprising September and October combined. For this round, Portsmouths must be shot by the end of October (in competition conditions, though not necessarily in competition) and submitted by 5th November. Warwick won both BUTC and the E-League in 2015. All clubs are strongly encourage to participate.

The BUCS Championships are in need of "host" club (or clubs), at Telford (on 6th February) and Lilleshall in the summer so contact the SAG about that. Also in the summer, the World University Championships take place in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. These are very early in the season, 1st-5th June, actually before BUCS Outdoors.

There will be more on the regional league changes for 2015/16 in the next editorial. At least 6 clubs will be joining the league fray this season and both SSS and SWWU will have new organisers.

Finally, for this article, a few bits of UKSAA website housekeeping that took place over the summer:

  • Links to results from the Irish IVL has been moved off the main site navigation and in to the Other Fixtures section. This because the last set of results I can find are from November 2012.
  • Editorial section URLs have been updated to remove the season sub-directory (e.g. /editorials/2015-08-04.shtml instead of /editorials/2014-2015/2015-08-04.shtml)
  • SSS section URLs have belatedly been updated from /sus to /sss
  • Historical Performances spreadsheet added to Resources section
