Having been denied by the slenderest of margins in BUTTS match 1, Warwick roared to 2277 and a 52 point win in match 2, going top of the table as a result. Trent and Loughborough hosted over the weekend of the 21/22 November, with Loughborough themselves scoring 2225 to take second place overall. After their match 1 exploits, Birmingham's seniors were third as their novices recorded another very convincing win.
Elsewhere, scores for Round 2 of the E-League, November, must be submitted by 5th December. Results for NEUAL Novice Champs (plus matches E2 and E3) and SEAL match 1 are emerging.
The basis of Warwick's total again came from Tom Hall and James Jeffs. Hall hit 586 and Jeffs 572, whilst Enrik Nako got 560 and Madeleine Meatyard one less. Louis Richardson and Arthur Coveney (both Loughborough) scored 574 and 563. Birmingham broke 2200 without any individual scores over 560, Rebekah Tipping on 559.
Top scorer in the match was Sherman Ip (Oxford) who hit 587, but despite that and 570 from Charlie Birch, Oxford missed out on 2200 by a single point. The Dark Blue total was, however, just enough to keep them ahead of the Nottingham clubs. Harry Ives-Keeler (Nottingham) and Rob Gray (Nottingham Trent) hit matching scores of 581. Nottingham pinched fifth place from Trent by a mere 2 points, 2191 to 2189. Lydia Sinnett-Smith (Cambridge) notched 567.
Warwick (15 points) leapfrogged Birmingham (now 14) at the top of the BUTTS senior league table, with Loughborough (12) doing a spot of leapfrogging of their own over Oxford (11). See the latest BUTTS standings. Standards in the BUTTS league remain formidable, but 2015 saw several of the league's top archers graduate and this has taken a toll.
In the novice fixture, Birmingham ran away with a (team of 4) victory of nearly 200. Antonio Rubino (Cambridge) top scored on 495 ahead of Guy Coop (Birmingham) 489. Cambridge only brought three novices to the match tumbling down to last place as a result. A fourth score of 342 would have seen the Light Blue novices in second. Actually second were Loughborough, with Nottingham third.
Birmingham's novices have, remarkably, now won 9 of their last 10 BUTTS fixtures (across three seasons). They lead Loughborough by 3 league points and the rest of the field by 6.
