Catching up with SEAL [24/Jan/26]

Now time to catch up with the two SEAL matches that took place in November.

The SEAL opener took place over the weekend of the 14th/15th November and turned in to a two horse race - there were only 16 points between first and second, but the gap from second to third was 203. Southampton got their title defence off to the best possible start, with a score of 2203 just enough to see off Surrey's 2187. Min Seok Kim (Southampton) was top in the match on 584, whilst for Surrey, Aryan Sharda and Isaac Mcllwrath hit 577 and 567. Imperial were best of the rest on 1984, with Yin Chan contributing 573 of those. UEA and Kent had to separate on golds after both clubs scored 1936. Elsewhere Liam Aronson (Sussex) hit 578.

In match two, held a fortnight later, the gap between first and second was again much smaller than the gap from second to third. This time however, Surrey were first (2216) ahead of Imperial (2165). Imperial were up 181 points as against match 1. Sussex pushed Southampton into fourth spot 2034-2004. Southampton were down 199 points as against match 1. Yin Chan (Imperial) top scored in the match on 580, but it was Isaac Mcllwrath (Surrey) who led his side to victory with a 572. Liam Aronson (Sussex) scored 566. ARU were fifth overall, 5 points shy of 2000.

These results put Surrey top on 29 points of a possible 30, with Southampton and Imperial on 27. Sussex are fourth and top of the pack with 22 points. Surrey are 2 league points in front, but their greater consistency across the two matches so far means their aggregate is nearly 200 ahead of everyone else..

In the SEAL novice matches, Southampton and Surrey were 1st and 2nd and then 2nd and 1st. Imperial and Brunel were third in matches 1 and 2 respectively. As if a mirror to the senior results, the gaps between 2nd and 3rd were again very large - 288 and 150. Rafael Paulo (Southampton) and Charlotte Cook (Surrey) were top in match 1 with 493 and 491. Cook shot a 510 in match 2, with Oskar Durys (Surrey) on 498. After two SEAL novice matches, Southampton and Surrey both have 29 points and a 4 point cushion on the rest of the field.

SEAL will resumes with a leg extracted from the BUCS qualifiers, with most SEAL clubs in the Southern Qualifier in Bristol on 14th February. See SEAL 2025/26 page for tables as they stand.
