Alongside the first set of regional league results of 2020/21, SSS organiser Emma Poulton also confirmed some changes to the format of the remainder of the SSS season.
This was intended to be a standard 5 rounds of postal competition. Archers can now submit up to 5 scores, one for each submission period. The best 3 scores from each archer will be added together for their total score. Team scores will be worked out as the sum of the top scoring archers' final scores. This change evokes pre-2007 BUTTS and the Irish League, albeit both of those leagues had clubs discarding their worst performance(s), rather than individuals.
SSS were the only regional league attempting a pre-Christmas fixture and the results, such as they are, have been heavily impacted by Covid-19 restrictions. Only 16 archers from 4 clubs entered scores - all senior archers. Of these, 8 were from Aberdeen, the only club to manage a complete team of 4. At the time, Aberdeen were only full club in Scotland whose local authority's Covid tier level allowed over 18s to shoot inside.
Guillaume Andrieux and Robyn Geddes (both Glasgow) were top recurve and compound respectively on 567 and 575. Jonathan Phillips (Aberdeen) was the other recurve to break 560, trailing Andrieux by 5 on 562. Solo compounder Faye McInnes (Highlands and Islands) was 3 behind Geddes on 572.
Because of the format and lack of entries, it is not really possible to create a sensible league table at this point. A PDF with the scores has been published on the Scottish Student Archery Facebook Group though.
The score window for SSS match 2 is scheduled to be 1st to 14th February 2021. Match 2 was supposed to be a Worcester, but to accommodate the change to best 3 scores from 5, this will now be a Portsmouth as well.
