Starting a university archery club is never a straightforward business but, clearly, it is possible. Starting a university archery club in the 2020/21 season comes with its own extra helpings of complexity however. Despite all the very obvious difficulties, one university are giving it a go. Phoebe Pine is the Worcester club captain and she says they are "in the process of becoming an official club, but aren't 'official' yet".
Two solo recurves have shot for Worcester in the past. Joanne Orbell, who was more recently a judge at several BUCS championships and also Jacob Vick. In a pleasing piece of symmetry, Orbell was 4th lady recurve at BUSA/BUCS Outdoors in 2008. Vick was 4th gent recurve in the same event, exactly 10 years later.
Worcester are in the boundary area between BUTTS and SWWU so could potentially end up joining either league.
Speaking of cartography, here is a map of the regional leagues, created by BUTTS organiser Morgan Burgess. See the regional leagues as brightly coloured polygons!
Finally, in the build up to Christmas, please do enjoy the Student Archery Advent Calendar. Created/curated by BUCS EMG chair Bethany Dexter, it has been going live on UKSAA social media channels throughout December and is scheduled to go right up until Christmas Eve. Hopefully this makes for some smiley people.
