BUTTS Outdoors happens [24/May/21]

Nottingham hosted the BUTTS "Pandemic" Outdoor Championships. The competition round was a WA900, i.e. 2.5 dozen arrows at 60m, 50m and 40m, all at a 122cm face for a maximum possible 900 points. This provided an opportunity for competitors to get a qualifying score for BUCS Outdoors. The Saturday round at Lilleshall will also be a WA900.

Reminder that the last day that entries will be accepted for BUCS Outdoors is Tuesday 25th May.

To the fixture itself and Warwick ran out the winners, with a combined team of 4 score of 2983. Hosts Nottingham fended off Oxford by only 10 points, 2864 to 2854. Loughborough were fourth a couple of points under 2800. There were five complete teams of 4, with a total of 9 out of BUTTS' 13 clubs represented.

Both men's and women's winners just cleared the 800 point mark, an interesting barometer with Lilleshall in mind. Eleanor Brug (Cambridge) scored 809 to win, with her nearest challenger Hannah Evans (Nottingham) on 790. Ffion Edgeley (De Montfort) was third on 765. On the gents side Arthur Coveney (Loughborough) shot 804, with Yang Pei (Oxford) and James Gardner (Warwick) in close pursuit, on 799 and 796.

Callum Platt (Birmingham) and Liam Pattinson (Cambridge) were the top compound and barebow respectively.

In the novice event, BUTTS used the same rule that BUCS Outdoors is using, in that any novices from the 2019/20 season still count as novices now. Hosts Nottingham dominated, with Loughborough and Nottingham Trent second and third. Dominic Kelsey (Nottingham) was the top recurve with 688.

The qualifying scores for BUCS Outdoors have been adjusted for 2021 only. The minimum scores required from a WA900 for recurves are 603 (gents) and 481 (ladies). The equivalent novice scores are 255 (gents) and 217 (ladies).

Team results can be seen on the BUTTS 2020/21 page. With just over 50 competitors, this is the biggest university fixture to take place for 14 months. Congratulations to BUTTS league organiser Morgan Burgess and all the team at Nottingham for putting on the event at all and to all those who went along.
