On the eve of BUCS Outdoors, some sad news out of the NEUAL region, as Bradford's club looks like it might fold.
A post in the NEUAL Captains Facebook page says that Bradford have no volunteers for exec positions next year and that it will be unable to run. Of course, there is still time for the situation to be reversed - and the club's physical assets would be held for 2 years by Bradford Students Union. However, if the club is not functional and in a postion to recruit new members in September, the outlook will be very grim. Bradford finished 11th out of 16 in the senior NEUAL table this season. They contested all 5 fixtures, but only fielded a complete team of 4 on two occasions.
Bradford were one of the founder members of NEUAL, competing in its first ever fixture back in 2002. Bradford won the senior NEUAL title once, in 2019. They required - and then produced - a win in the final fixture of that season to overtake Durham. They have also finished NEUAL runners up in 2005, 2016 and 2017. They won the NEUAL novice title in 2016 and have finished runners up on two other occasions. Bradford were 5th and 6th at BUCS Indoors 2000 and 2001. More recently, they got to the BUTC 2018 quarter-finals, only going out to the eventual winners Birmingham. They followed that up with 8th place men's team at BUCS Indoors in 2019.
The possible collapse of an established club like Bradford should serve as a warning to all those involved in the student archery landscape. Your club doesn't need to exist. It only exists because you all want it to and to avoid what might happen to Bradford from happening elsewhere, that desire needs to be converted into action.
