With BUTC 2024 forced into a date in the Easter holidays, the tournament is not quite fully subscribed. 25 out of the 32 spaces have been taken - see the list of teams who have entered. Organisers have taken the decision to re-open entries on a first come first served basis. The first seven A (and/or B) teams to enter will get guaranteed spaces. Subsequent entries will go on the waiting list. UKSAA strongly endorses BUTC - if your club can get 3 bodies to Sheffield, then do it!
The timing of BUTC is clearly not ideal, but it was only Sheffield's offer that prevented the event being postponed until November (and carrying over student's eligibility) or simply being cancelled altogether.
The BUTC entry form is on the BUTC Tournament Info page.
Sheffield were also the winners of NEUAL match 2, a fixture which began in early January and was only concluded in late March. The top 3 teams were only 17 points apart. League leaders Sheffield were first with 2135. York took second place in the match on 2123, with Leeds - second in the table - just 5 further back on 2118. Liverpool were third on 2080, roughly 100 ahead of Huddersfield and UCLan. Samson Wang (Leeds) and Jack Wells (Sheffield) were top individuals on 562 and 561. This result meant that Sheffield increased their lead at the top from 2 to 4 points. They have 60 to Leeds' 56. Liverpool stay third on 49, with York up to 4th on 48. Sheffield have 3 wins from 3, but the margins of victory have been tight: 27, 8 and 12.
Liverpool won the NEUAL novice match very comfortably with 1428. Sheffield were the nearest contenders on 1296 and they had a further 100 point margin over the field. Will Luddington (Sheffield) was top individual on 521. Sheffield now have 78 points to Liverpool's 76 - churn in the novice team results means the pair are 15 league points clear.
UCLan won a closely contested Unsighted team match, with 32 points covering the top 4. UCLan scored 1348, with Keele on 1327. Huddersfield and Chester both scored 1316 and needed golds to be split. Wenze Jiang (Manchester) was top individual on 533. Central Lancashire now have 78 league points, with three wins from four matches. Behind UCLan, more results churn means that there is a 12 point gap down to Sheffield, MMU and Keele, all on 66.
