Over the start of this week, results from NEUAL match 1, SSS match 3 and SWWU match 3 were all released. NEUAL match 1 was held over the weekends of 29th October and 18th November, but a delay in the results from one of the components of the match meant the results came out with the SSS and SWWU match 3's. SSS match 3 was in two parts, but finished on 25th November, with the entirety of SWWU match 3 happening the following day.
In NEUAL, Sheffield and Leeds fought it out for top spot. These two have finished as NEUAL's top two in the last two seasons. Match 1 of 2023/24 saw Sheffield take top spot in this match with 2209 against Leeds' tally of 2182 - a winning margin of 27. Consistency was key for both teams as their team's ranges of scores were 557 to 545 (for Sheffield) and 554 to 541 (for Leeds). Third place in the match went to York who were all alone on 2129 - 53 behind Leeds, but 110 ahead of Central Lancashire who were fourth on 2019, and Manchester who were fifth on 1942. This is Manchester's best ever single match result in NEUAL and they were themselves nearly 100 points of the chasing pack, headed by Liverpool. Kabeer Abdulhusein (York) was top scorer in the match and the only person over 560 on 562. Six other clubs had archers in the 550s.
Newcastle won the novice match convincingly on 1074 - top individual was Jiehan Ying (Newcastle) on 464. UCLan won the Unsighted match convincingly on 1439. Top individual was Daniel Kilgallon (UCLan) on 552.
Both SSS and SWWU match 3 used a Worcester round.
Dundee powered to a fairly comfortable win in SSS match 3. They scored 1126 with Strathclyde their nearest competitors on the day on 1054. UWS took third spot on 974 ahead of St Andrews. This is UWS' best ever single SSS match placing. Misha Pavlov and Alex Lai (both Dundee) top scored in the match on 289 and 287. Artur Pacut (Napier) shot 284 - his side ended the match fifth.
Strength in depth took Bath to the win over Bristol. Bath scored 1059, with Bristol on 1023. That's despite Roisin Mooney and Alex Williams (both Bristol) who top scored in the match on 287 and 284. There was a 200 point gap to the chasing pack, with Aberystwyth taking third place narrowly from Exeter and UWE. This is Aberystwyth's best single match result since November 2019. Plymouth also made a welcome return after missing the first two matches. Bangor featured at a SWWU match that was not a BUCS Qualifier for the first time.
Dundee (44-42) now lead Strathclyde by 2 points in SSS. In SWWU Bath (30-27) lead Bristol by 3, with both league leaders looking in good form. Third place is occupied by St Andrews and Exeter respectively.
Heriot-Watt and Bristol won the novice matches and both teams lead their respective tables. Heriot-Watt, who have never previously won the SSS novice title, lead by 6 points. Attendance (or lack) has influenced the SWWU novice table significantly, but Bristol have re-taken top spot after match 3. Top individual novice across both matches was Ryan Tung (St Andrews) who scored 232.
Edinburgh won their third consecutive SSS compound match to lead by 3 points from Abertay. Exeter won the SWWU compound match to go top of the table, overtaking Swansea. Top scoring compound was Oliver Coupe (Cardiff) who scored a perfect 300.
