Three regional matches were completed over the weekend of the 9th and 10th of December, the last set of regional results in 2023. TOUCAN match 1 was split over 3 different weekends across November and December. NEUAL Novice Champs counted as a match in the NEUAL Novice and NEUAL Unsighted leagues, whilst SWWU 4 was a Frostbite.
Shooting in the third out of the three slices of TOUCAN match 1, Nottingham took top spot after scoring 2231. The match was pretty close as only 41 points separated the top 4 teams. Defending champions Oxford were second on 2211, just ahead of Birmingham on 2206 and Warwick on 2190. Not that far behind the leading group were Loughborough (2155), a shade ahead of Nottingham Trent (2151). Hannah Evans and Ismael Ahmed (both Nottingham) helped their side to the 20 point win with their scores of 574 and 562. Top individual overall however was Samuel Walby (Oxford) with 578. Wills Chiu (Warwick) hit 573, whilst Luca Anghelache and Joshua Morris-Jones (both Nottingham Trent) added 570 and 565.
In the novice match, TOUCAN uses a team of 4 total. Cambridge picked up maximum novice points with 1856. Nottingham were second on 1767. Birmingham led the chasing pack. Top novices in this match were Michael Luo (Cambridge) on 498, with Alfie Toohey (Warwick) on 487.
SWWU match 4 was a Frostbite and saw Bristol halt Bath's winning run, beating them by 5 points 1201 to 1196. Exeter were a distant third, with UWE fourth. By a single point, Austin Zhan (Bristol) edged out Louis Huygens (Bath) as top scorer in the match 319 vs 318. Roisin Mooney (Bristol) added 315. The equivalent novice match was won by Bristol, with Bath second again. Magdalena Kazmierczak (Bristol) was top novice.
In the senior SWWU table, Bath now have 39 points to Bristol's 37. Bath are still in a very strong position, but Bristol remain in touch. As in match 4, Exeter were third, but are some way back on 31 points. In the novice table, Bristol have 30 to Bath's 27. In the compound table, Swansea have 35 to Exeter's 34.
Sheffield won the NEUAL Novice Championship convincingly. Their (team of 3) total of 1324 was miles clear of their rivals. Just over 120 points behind Sheffield, second down to fourth were split by only 11. Liverpool took second on 1203, with Leeds on 1201 and Newcastle taking fourth spot on 1192. As last year, NEUAL's Unsighted league also extracts a set of results from the Novice Championships. Sheffield also came out on top here with 1259. Northumbria took second on 1121, with UCLan third on 1081. Top scorers were barebow Izzy Grey (UCLan) on 469 and recurve Will Luddington (Sheffield) on 468.
In the NEUAL novice table, Sheffield overtake Newcastle at the top, to lead with 39 points. Newcastle and Liverpool both now have 37. In the Unsighted table, UCLan stay top, now with 38 points ahead of York on 36. Sheffield's win lifts them from 7th to 3rd overall on 34.
