Full results for the first two SWWU matches have now been confirmed. Match 1 was a postal held across September and October (and early November for novices), whilst match 2 was a physical fixture, taking place in Swansea on 11th November.
Bath romped to triple digit wins in both matches, scoring 2244 and 2199. In match 1, Dan Clarke and Adam Wild (both Bath) scored 573 and 567, with Clarke the overall top score in the fixture. In match 2, a remarkable display of consistency saw all 4 of Bath's archers score 550 +/- 3 points. Defending SWWU champions Bristol were second in both matches, improving from 1985 to 2077. Roisin Mooney (Bristol) top scored for her side in both matches. Mooney shot 571 in match 1 and was the overall top scorer in match 2 with 582, with Alex Williams (Bristol) adding 563 and 561. Exeter placed third in both matches, with 1964 and 1911. Fourth place went to Aberystwyth in match 1 and Swansea in match 2. However, in both sets of results the gap from third down to fourth exceeded 150 points.
Cardiff returned to the SWWU fold after being absent last year. Thomas McCarthy (Cardiff) scored 570 in match 1.
The SWWU novice and compound matches were less well attended. Match 1 for novices was a half Portsmouth. Cardiff (novices) and Swansea (compounds) lead the tables currently. Across the two matches, Dylan Profit (Exeter) and Amy Bode (Bristol) were the highest scoring novice and compound respectively.
In the overall SWWU table, Bath have a maximum 20 out of 20 points, with Bristol on 18 and Exeter on 16. Bath haven't won the senior SWWU title since 2015. They came perilously close last season, only to see Bristol overtake them in the final match. If Bath do win this year, they will become the first club to win a 10th regional league title in any of the 4 leagues covering England and Wales. Bath and Warwick have to date won 9 senior recurve regional titles. Cambridge are next with 8, whilst Imperial and Exeter have won 7 each.
Updated SWWU tables can be seen on the SWWU 2023/24 page. SWWU has two more scheduled matches before Christmas. Match 3 is using a Worcester and will now be co-hosted by Aberystwyth as well as Cardiff, on 26th November. Match 4 is a Frostbite, now hosted by Cleve Archers in Bristol on 9th December. Brrr.
