BUTC 2023 hosts/date confirmed [30/Jan/23]
BUTC 2023 will be hosted by Leeds on Saturday 11th March.
As BUTC is returning to its usual springtime slot in the calendar, eligibility rules are also returning to normal, following the exceptional circumstances surrounding BUTC 2022. To be eligible for BUTC 2023, you must also be eligible for BUCS Indoors 2023.
Leeds have never hosted BUTC before and the competition returns to the NEUAL region for the first time since Lancaster in 2017. Leeds have hosted BUCS Indoor Champs/Finals four times, most recently in 2019.
By far Leeds' best ever BUTC performance came only a few months ago at BUTC 2022 in Loughborough. Tom Braxton, Henry Tien and Samson Wang qualified in 4th. Leeds romped home in their first two knock-out matches, winning both by double-digit margins. They then beat Plymouth 14-10 in the QF. Competitive defeats to eventual winners Warwick (in the semi) and then to Nottingham (in the bronze match) meant they ended the day 4th. Leeds B also won their first round match against Dundee in a match that required a triple shoot-off.
Prior to BUTC 2022, Leeds had only ever won one BUTC KO match. Back in 2008, Leeds B were top of the waiting list and turned up to the hall without a space, but with their kit. When another team didn't show up on competition morning, they were catapaulted into action and qualified 19th, only one space behind their A team. In the first round of KO matches, Leeds A lost, but the B's were 9-5 winners over Birmingham A, before losing out to Imperial in the second round.
Defending champions are Warwick after they beat Sheffield in the 2022 final.
