NEUAL kicks off Unsighted League [13/Jan/23]
Results from NEUAL match 1 - mostly shot pre-Christmas - have recently been published. These were combined from some physical matches and some postal matches, with a partial scheduling clash meant some scores from the NEUAL Novice Champs doubled up. For the first time in any regional league, there was an Unsighted Team (i.e. barebow and longbow) team match. This was a team of 3 and was extracted from the general match results.
Leeds took top spot in the recurve match with 2097 just enough to see off Durham who scored 2091. That was despite the two top scorers in the match both being from Durham. Michaela Jia and Charlotte Llewellyn-Smith scored 567 and 565 with no-one else above 550. Lancaster were third on 2055, whilst York were the last team over 2000 with 2011. Newcastle and Central Lancashire were next, back on 1933 and 1913. Fourteen clubs took part, with Manchester Metropolitan shooting in their first NEUAL league match since back in February 2017.
In the novice match Newcastle and York were first and second, with both of those teams importing Novice Championship scores. The overall novice table now has two fixtures, with Newcastle top (on 40 points), ahead of Leeds (37) and York (36).
Compound leagues have sprung up in SSS and SWWU and there are separate non-recurve rounds in SEAL. However, this is the first instance of a barebow (and including longbow) team event. Scores were extracted from the "regular" results. Thirteen (out of the fourteen) clubs were represented here, with eight having a complete unsighted team of three.
In the unsighted match itself, Newcastle took top honours with 1317, with Sheffield in second, back on 1256. Huddersfield just pipped Keele and Chester to third place, with 1140 against 1138 and 1132. Top individuals in this first unsighted match were Daniel Kilgallon (UCLan) on 518 and Leah Millington (Newcastle) on 499.
