Results from a NEUAL postal match, that took place across January and March have now been published. Leeds won the match by 7 points from Sheffield, who thmselves won the unsighted match by 7 points from Huddersfield. The novice match was won by Newcastle. On the postal match theme, scores shot during March and that can count for E-League Round 5 March, must be submitted by 7th April.
NEUAL league match 2 is the fourth set of scores to be added to the NEUAL tables, following NEUAL match 1, the NEUAL Indoor Champs and a round extracted from BUCS Qualifying.
Leeds narrowly pipped Sheffield, scoring 2108 against 2101. Jack Wells (Sheffield) was top scorer in the match with 577. Behind the top two teams, there was a drop to Durham in third with 2017 and Newcastle just behind them on exactly 2000. Behind Newcastle in fifth and sixth were UCLan (1912) and Liverpool (1900). Daniel Cooper (Liverpool) scored 567 and Jesse Phillips (Lancaster) was a point under 560.
The result means that Leeds now have 76 league points, with Sheffield back on 72, the lead going from 3 to 4. Durham are now third on 67, with York and Central Lancashire on 64 and Newcastle on 63. Assuming that there is one more NEUAL fixture to be completed, a top 4 finish for Leeds will assure them of a maiden title. Defending champions Sheffield are the only club with a realistic chance at stopping them. Sheffield have had a hugely successful season in the national indoor events and could still win their fifth senior NEUAL crown and become the first clubs to successfully defend the senior NEUAL title since 2006 - matching current NEUAL records currently held by York. Leeds have never won the NEUAL title before, but were runners up last season.
In the novice table, Newcastle won the novice fixture by a huge margin. Their total was 1407, a whopping 235 clear of Lancaster's 1172. Lancaster were themselves nearly 100 ahead of Leeds (1080) and Manchester (1077). Top novice in the match was Wynnie Chong (Newcastle) 506. Newcastle now have five wins from five matches and 100 league points. Leeds have 93 and are the only club with a mathematical chance of catching them. Newcastle have never won a NEUAL league title (senior or novice) since joining the league in 2014/15. Their seniors were 3rd in 2018, whilst their novices were also third in 2019 and 2022, i.e. twice in the last three competitive NEUAL seasons.
Results and the latest NEUAL tables can be seen on the NEUAL 2022/23 page.
