With BUTC 2022 at the end of the week, Results have been published for SWWU match 1 and SSS match 2. There were wins for Bath and Dundee, with Exeter and Aberdeen in second place respectively. Dundee stretch their overall SSS lead to 3 points. SWWU used a half Portsmouth for its novices and produced an interesting innovation in their individual results.
Two teams have withdrawn from BUTC 2022, with the top two clubs on the B team waiting list (Warwick and Bristol) offered those spaces.
SWWU match 1 was a postal with the scoring window a two week period from 26th October to 6th November. Bath came out on top with team of 4 score of 2169. Nearest challengers were Exeter on 2114, 55 points behind. There was then a bit of a drop to Bristol and West of England. The city neighbours were third and fourth, either side of 2000, with Bristol on 2011 and UWE on 1990. Alex Williams (Bristol) was the top individual score in the match on 556. There were only three clubs represented in the novice match, with Bath taking top spot. Novices only shot a half Portsmouth. Exeter topped the compound standings.
Trying something new, SWWU split their individual results for the match by category, but then by bow weight rather than gender, e.g. experienced recurves over 28lbs and experienced recurve under 28lbs.
Bath's win is their first SWWU leg win since June 2015. SWWU match 2 is on 26th November in Swansea.
In Scotland, Dundee won SSS match 2, but it was a much closer affair than match 1, their winning margin down from 120 to 41. They posted a total of 2174, but Aberdeen improved by over 100 on match 1, with 2133. Rebecca Leigh and Joshua Phillips (both Aberdeen) both scored 575. Strathclyde were third on 2072, just over 100 ahead of Heriot-Watt who were fourth on 1966. Strathclyde were top novice team and jumped to the top of the novice table. Edinburgh were top compound team, including a 595 from Jake Walsh, 1 off his All Unis equalling score in match 1.
Having waited over 10 years for a SSS-wide match win, Dundee have now claimed two in a week to have the maximum 30 out of 30. Strathclyde, Aberdeen and Heriot-Watt have 27, 26 and 25. Strathclyde now have a 3 point lead in the novice table. Edinburgh lead the compound table by 2.
SSS match 3 is on Sat 19th Nov. There has been a partial change of venue, with Dundee and St Andrews now the two hosts. This match is on a Worcester round and it takes place the day before BUTC.
