BUCS Outdoors is now less than a fortnight away, at Lilleshall NSC on 14th and 15th June, so remember your ArcheryGB and student ID cards. Full details will (presumably) appear on the BUCS website very soon.
Back in April, SSS Outdoors was a two day event. The WA900 team event was won by St Andrews with 2408, just ahead of Dundee's 2372, with Edinburgh in third, about 100 further back. Top individuals were Misha Pavlov and Jingnan Zhang (both Dundee) on 806 and 777. Kelsey Hunt top scored for St Andrews who recorded their first SSS match win since February 2022. St Andrews also won the novice team element of the day, with Edinburgh their only serious challengers. Rosie Wang (Edinburgh) and Adam Mullen (St Andrews) were the top individual novices on 664 and 653.
The weekend of the 10th and 11th May saw TOUCAN, NEUAL and SEAL all have their Outdoor Championships.
At the TOUCAN Outdoor Champs - a WA720 - Warwick took top spot, scoring 2252, while Birmingham edged in front of Nottingham 2134 against 2127 - a margin of only 7. Wills Chiu (Warwick) and Megan Costall (Birmingham) were the top gent and lady and top two in the match. Chiu scored 636, with Costall on 614, whilst Ecaterina Pogorenii scored 593 for Oxford, who were fourth. Loughborough won the novice match comfortably on 1825. Nottingham and Birmingham were again split by a single digit margin for second and third. Nottingham's novices gained some revenge for their seniors by a single point 1589 to 1588. Top individual was Joshua Cook (Loughborough) on 493. Close behind Cook were Daniel Leonard (Loughborough), Wiebke von Abel (Birmingham) and Jess Wrona (Nottingham). Lucas Yau (Loughborough) added nearly 40 points to the All Unis record for gents novice compound 50m round, scoring 619.
NEUAL ran its Outdoor Championships as a two-day event with a WA720 and WA900. Individuals combined weekend totals were used to calculate the final team totals. Manchester won the first day, narrowly ahead of Sheffield. Sheffield won day 2, with York second. Overall Sheffield's tally of 4923 made them champions, with Lancaster second on 4783 and Leeds in third on 4649. Liverpool (4466) and York (4405) were fourth and fifth completing the leading group of teams. Jack Wells edged out Kian Eshraghi-Yazdi (both Sheffield) 591 to 587 on the WA720, Samson Wang (Leeds) on 573. Jake Patel (Leeds) won the WA900 with 802, with Wells second on 794, two ahead of Kobe Pioquinto (Lancaster). Shooting as a student guest, Charlotte Hempsall (Anglia Ruskin) was very comfortably the top lady on both days with 602 and 818.
Liverpool won both the Novice and Unsighted team titles. Their novices were 1 point off 3000, with Sheffield and Newcastle in second and third, with roughly 300 point margins separating them. Liverpool's unsighted team total was 2873, with MMU in second on 2740 and Manchester a very distant third. Top gent novices each day were Li Qingyang (Manchester) and Nathan Haine (Sheffield). Abir Al-Ansari (Liverpool) was top novice lady both days. Top barebows each day were Wenze Jiang and Myfanwy Fflur (both Manchester).
By chance, TOUCAN and NEUAL both held WA24 marked Field events on 18th May. Leicester and Leeds won the respective overall team events. Warwick and Liverpool were runners up.
SEAL Oudoors was a 720 with H2H, although there was no team component to the day's results. In the recurve finals, Simon Hake (Surrey) beat Nathan Jones (Kent), whilst Hannah Ackland-Snow (Reading) beat Julianna Ostrovska (Royal Holloway). Hake and Ostrovska were top seeds.
There have also been several friendlies and Varsity matches, including Varsity wins for Oxford, Lancaster, Huddersfield, Bristol, Northampton, Leicester and Chester. If your result is not in the UKSAA Other Fixtures 2024/25 page, it is because UKSAA doesn't have the information. Please can UKSAA have the information. Thank you!
