Results from SSS match 4 have been published. The match was started on the weekend of 25th January at Heriot-Watt, but some teams were unable to travel on the day due to Storm Eowyn, with red weather warnings in southern Scotland. The match has now been completed and results were published this week.
Dundee got the better of Strathclyde in the fixture itself. The defending SSS league champions scored 2202, with Strathclyde not far behind on 2179. Behind the top two, Edinburgh pipped St Andrews by only 2, 2116 to 2114. Heriot-Watt were fifth. Misha Pavlov (Dundee) was top scorer in the match on 583, 10 points ahead of Grant McLellan (Strathclyde) on 573, who was in turn 10 points ahead of Alex Lai (Dundee) and Benji Hamer (Strathclyde), who both shot 563s. Nan Bei (Edinburgh) led his side home on 561.
This result makes it 2 wins (and 2 second places) apiece for both Dundee and Strathclyde. They now both have 58 points meaning that match 5 is a straight shoot out for the title - SSS Indoors doesn't count towards the league standings. Match 5 has in fact, already happened (15th & 16th Feb), but SSS don't typically release the results of the final league match until after the Indoor Champs, so we do not yet know who has won. SSS Indoors takes place in St Andrews on Sat 8th Mar.
Sometimes the destination of the title is a formality by match 5 - not this time. Strathclyde have never won the senior SSS league title - at least, not as far back as UKSAA records go. Dundee's two senior SSS titles have come in the last two years. Edinburgh are sitting third on 51 points, with St Andrews on 49. See the current standings on the SSS 2024/25 page.
In SSS novice match 4 Edinburgh's margin of victory was a massive 179 as they scored 1468. Heriot-Watt were second on 1289, including Tyren Ng the top individual in the match on 523. Strathclyde were third. Heriot-Watt are now one point in lead the novice table on 57 points, with Strathclyde on 56 - 9 clear of the field. Heriot-Watt also have an aggregate advantage of 124. Edinburgh's DNS in match 3 counts them out of contention. In the SSS compound match, Edinburgh won and lead by 4 points overall.
Finally, another reminder about upcoming E-League and BUTC deadlines.
