Three way fight in TOUCAN 1 [27/Nov/24]
TOUCAN match 1 played out across the weekends of 16th and 23rd November, with matches at Birmingham, Loughborough and Oxford.
The opening fixture in the Midlands was a high-scoring, close-run affair, with only 20 points covering the top three teams. Nottingham took the honors by finishing a mere 9 ahead of Birmingham, who were in turn 11 ahead of Warwick as the three clubs ended on 2284, 2275 and 2264. Louisa Piper (Nottingham) top scored in the match with 593. Megan Costall (Birmingham) and Wills Chiu (Warwick) top scored for their sides with 581 and 580, with Kian Watkins (Birmingham) contributing 576. All of the three top sides had archers in the lower 560s: Mohammed Ismael Ahmed, Layla Nimmo (both Nottingham), Thomas Greenwood (Birmingham), Ellie Noble, Jack McKay and Rohit Ravichandran (all Warwick).
Defending champions Oxford were fourth, just clearing the 2200 barrier on 2204, courtesy of 567 and 565 from Yanyijie Zhou and Ecaterina Pogorenii. Leicester and Coventry made their TOUCAN div 1 debuts in this match. Leicester were actually fifth overall on 2157, squeezing 5 points ahead of Loughborough. Coventry were seventh overall and featured Callum Piggot, who was the top scoring gent in the match with 590.
The novice TOUCAN match was won by Loughborough whose (team of 4) score of 1812 was just enough to see off Warwick who posted 1793. Birmingham were third but trailed Warwick by well over 100. Daniel Leonard (Loughborough) was the top individual on 486.
On novices, the second part of SWWU match 2 - featuring novices only - was shot in Swansea on 23rd November. Its senior counterpart had been shot at the same venue three weeks previously, however the seniors shot a WA18, so the novice Portsmouth scores are not being folded back in to the senior match 2 results. Bristol won the novice match with a (team of 3) score of 1239. UWE were second, 101 behind, but including Siddique Pathan, who was the top novice of the match on 436.
