SWWU Indoors/Match 6/H2H [25/Mar/25]

The SWWU Indoor Championships - aka SWWU match 6 - were in Bristol on Sun 23rd Mar. The tournament was a Bray I, followed by an individual H2H event, with echoes of the formats of both BUCS Indoors and BUTC. On a BUTC note, with 5 days to go until BUTC, there are currently 5 vacancies in the tournament, available on a first come, first served basis.

At these Championships, hosts Bristol came out on top and now lead the senior SWWU table by 3 league points. The ranking round determined the team placings for the fixture and hosts Bristol pulled clear of the field. They amassed 1030 points, leaving Bath and Exeter to duke it out for second. Exeter's 966 was just enough to see off Bath who scored 955. Best of the rest were UWE who came in fourth, two points under 900. Julian Chan (Bristol) was the only archer to break 260, with 262, albeit Magdalena Kazmierczak and Alex Williams (both Bristol) were just a point and two points under.

Bristol had been 2 points ahead of both Exeter and Bath. Now that lead has stretched to 3. Bristol have 54 points from five 1sts and one 7th place. Exeter have 51 points and Bath have 50. Plymouth are fourth overall, but are back on 34.

The novice match saw Bath have their first SWWU match win of the season on 665. Exeter squeezed ahead of Bristol 619 to 612. Top novice was Ed Moore (Exeter) who actually top scored for his senior team as well, with 249. Exeter's novices now have 44 points to Bristol's 42. Bath are on 38.

In the individual H2H component of the day, Alex Williams (Bristol) beat Darrell McFaweya (Exeter) in the men's final. All four women's recurve semi-finalists were from Bristol, with Sheryl Shen beating Maja Kliczka in the final. Jonathan Jackson and Priya Sitlani (both Bath) won the novice recurve H2Hs.

There are 2 more SWWU league fixtures to go, a WA900 in Exeter on 10th May and a WA720 in Bristol on 18th May. Not counting towards the league, there will also be a SWWU clout event on Sat 24th May.
