Senior fixtures in SWWU & NEUAL [07/Nov/24]

There have been wins for Leeds and Bristol (twice) in early season fixtures in NEUAL and SWWU.

Bristol won senior recurve SWWU matches 1 and 2. Match 1 was a postal Portsmouth which could be shot over the course of September and October. Match 2 was shot at Swansea on 2nd November, but was open to senior archers (on a WA18) with the novices shooting their half of the match on a Portsmouth in Swansea three weeks later. Another fixture which was effectively seniors only was NUTC, which got the regional league calendar up and running on 20th October in Keele. Leeds beat Lancaster in the final.

Albeit temporarily, SWWU senior recurve and compound tables have two match results, whilst the novice table is still all zeroes.

Bristol won match 1 with 2161, nudging just a little way ahead of Bath on 2132. Alex Williams (Bristol) top scored in the match on 572. Exeter were third on 2076, with Aberystwyth on 2024. Luke Burch (Exeter) scored 565. In match 2, a WA18, Bristol won again, this time by a three digit margin on 2003. Exeter pipped Bath to second spot 1871 to 1865, with Aberystwyth fourth again. Alex Williams top scored again with 549. Samantha Roberts (Cardiff) hit 524. As a result, Bristol have a maximum 20 points, with Bath and Exeter on 17. Aberystwyth are the top Welsh club so far on 14 points, see SWWU 2024/25 page. Swansea won both compound fixtures to have 20 points here.

A link to the NUTC results is on ianseo. In the ranking round, a Bray I, Cheung Sum Hin (Sheffield) broke his own All Unis record (of 291 at BUTC 2023) by 2 points with 293. The NUTC final was between the top two seeds Leeds and Lancaster. It was a repeat of one of the BUTC 2024 semi-finals - in fact both clubs had exactly the same line-ups as in that match (Patel/Wang/Keshav v Pioquinto/Phillips/Hulme). Top seeds Leeds got the better of things here 6-4 and won the tournament as a result. Liverpool A squeezed out Sheffield B in the bronze medal match. There were 16 teams in total with 10 A and 6 B teams.

The first slice of NEUAL match 1, featuring 6 teams in Huddersfield also took place on 27th October, with the rest of NEUAL match 1 still to follow.

Next weekend (9th Nov) sees the first SSS match of the year at Heriot-Watt, see the Calendar page.
