Results from SSS match 5 (15th & 16th Feb) and SSS Indoor Champs (8th Mar) were recently published. Dundee and Strathclyde were level on points, heading in to match 5. Dundee's win here gave them the SSS league title for the third year in a row. At the Indoor Champs, which is a freestanding competition and does not count towards the SSS League, Strathclyde were the winners.
SSS League Match 5 and the SSS Indoor Champs were both held on WA18s.
Dundee and Strathclyde were in a straight shoot out for the SSS league title and it was Dundee who came out on top, with a WA18 team of 4 total of 2103. Edinburgh were actually second overall in the match on 2062, with Strathclyde coming third on 2014. The top 3 were nearly 200 clear of the rest of the field, with the top 3 archers in the match neatly mirroring the team standings. Top was Misha Pavlov (Dundee) on 563, a little way ahead of Nan Bei (Edinburgh) with 554 and the 551 from Grant McLellan (Strathclyde).
These results mean that Dundee moved on to 73 points and claimed the SSS league title for the third time ever and third time succession. This is definitely the hardest Dundee have been made to work however. Strathclyde's 71 saw them finish second for the second year in a row, but pushed Dundee all the way to the finish line. In the last 10 competitive SSS seasons, Strathclyde have never finished outside the top half and have been on the SSS league podium 7 times. Edinburgh were third on 65 points - this is their best finish post-Covid. St Andrews were fourth overall on 60.
There was less positive news too. Stirling only joined the league last season, but did not attend any matches this time around. Napier were SSS champions as recently as 2020. Post Covid, Napier have never finished higher than 8th and they were completely absent from these two fixtures, as well as fielding no novices at all, all season.
In the SSS novice match 5, Heriot-Watt won with a WA18m team of 3 total of 1088 and won the SSS novice league title overall for the second year in a row. Dundee were second in the match and St Andrews third. Strathclyde had been second in the table heading in to the match, but fielded an incomplete team and were 6th. They did hold on to second spot overall. Top individual novice in the match was Tyren Ng (Heriot-Watt) with 466.
Edinburgh won the SSS compound league. Abertay were the winners of match 5 and overtook St Andrews in the table to go second.

At SSS Indoor Champs, Strathclyde gained a measure of revenge with a 104 point winning margin over Dundee, 2088 to 1984. St Andrews beat Edinburgh to third, 1868 to 1830. Grant McLellan - top scorer in the match - and Benji Hamer (both Strathclyde) scored 562 and 541, with Misha Pavlov (Dundee) hitting 553 in return. Edinburgh stormed to a comfortable win in the novice standings with 1306, with Dundee second. Mickael Izharudin (Strathclyde) was top novice on 467, with barebow Laura Mazzoni (Edinburgh) only 10 behind. St Andrews won the compound fixture, with Josephine Stewart on 572.
