The entry form for BUTC 2025 is now available in the BUTC Tournament Info page. At BUTC 2025, all clubs are guaranteed TWO knock-out matches.
The initial entry deadline for clubs wishing to enter a B team (as well as an A team!) is Wednesday 12th March. Entries will still be accepted, but for A teams only, up until the final deadline, Wednesday 19th March. Full entry details are on the Tournament Info page. BUTC 2025 is in Exeter on Sunday 30th March.
A big part of BUTC's allure has always been the hit miss disc - 60mm of yellow joy or despair - and the crowds of spectators who make the noise. However, the inevitable consequence of a knock out format is that half the teams in the draw - 16 out of 32 - only get one match and are out early in the afternoon. As a trial in 2025, organisers are making an addition to the format to guarantee every team in the event at least two matches on the discs.
The KO matches will start with 16 matches between 32 teams as normal. The 16 match winners contest the next round, then 8, 4 and 2, with the champions crowned at the end of the day. However, BUTC 2025 will trial an additional repechage round. The repechage round will pitch the 16 first round losers against one another, with the winners of those matches finishing in places 17 to 24 and the losers finishing in places 25 to 32.
Organisers hope that a plan for more matches for more teams will help reinvigorate the event. It should also encourage eliminated teams to hang around for longer and hopefully help to ensure a big crowd are watching an atmospheric final.
Exeter have confirmed The Ram bar on campus, and about 5-10 minutes walk from the venue, will be available for the social afterwards.
