Southampton seize SEAL summit [03/Dec/24]

SEAL match 2 played out across five venues in the South East, all being shot on Sunday 1st December.

Southampton secured a fairly comfortable victory in the fixture, narrowly missing out on 2200 - by 2 - but scoring enough to win by nearly 80. Second place went to Royal Holloway with 2119 - the second match in a row that RHU have had their best ever single SEAL match result. Megan Hadley (Southampton) scored 563 with Shauna Punjabi (RHU) top scoring in the match on 572. East Anglia squeaked ahead of Imperial by a single point 2074 to 2073. Imperial were 133 down on their match 1 total and dropped 3 places in the match as a result. Surrey were fifth on 2058. Charlotte Hempsell (ARU) scored 568 for her sixth placed side.

The top 6 individual recurve scores in the match were all from women - Punjabi, Hempsell and Hadley as above, plus Megan Regensburger (Southampton), Julianna Ostrovska (RHU) and Eliza Tully (Reading) all the mid 550s.

A three league point swing in their favour means Southampton leapfrog Imperial at the top of the SEAL table. Southampton have 29 points to Imperial's 27. Southampton have won the senior SEAL title 3 times, but not since 2014, despite 5 second places in the interim. Royal Holloway's excellent start to the season continues as they move up to third on 26 points. In their 4 SEAL campaigns so far, Royal Holloway have never finished higher than 11th, a record sure to be smashed this season. Surrey and UEA are currently fourth and fifth, both on 24 league points.

UEA's seniors finished 1 point ahead of Imperial to take third spot. Their novices finished 1 point ahead of Surrey to take the novice match win, 1332-1331. Southampton were third on 1251, although Harvey Bishop (Southampton) was top individual novice on 511. Surrey's novices now have 29 points, UEA have 28 and Southampton have 27.
