A reminder that scores for the second round of the ELeague, November, must be submitted today.
Surrey and Kent had both won their opening SEAL fixtures whilst Sussex had been a DNS at theirs. In this fixture, Surrey clocked up a 2181, with exactly the same four as in the previous match, Matt Sharpe and Matt Brown in the 560s. Kent came within 5 of what would have been a stunning victory in only their second SEAL outing, but had to settle for second on 2176 despite a second consecutive 571 from Sam Perkins. Meanwhile, Sussex fielded a total of 8 archers, all were novices and the "senior" team total was a thousand points adrift of Surrey and Kent. The Sussex novice team did get the better of Kent's though, with Surrey winning overall. Special mention for barebow novice Andrew Robertson was Sussex's fourth man, just missing out on the novice team, but making the senior side.
In SUS, Aberdeen just failed to make 2000 despite a 556 from James Pike, but still recorded an easy home win by around 200 over Heriot-Watt and St Andrews. Aberdeen also won the novice match with the SUS Novice Champs tomorrow.
The Irish Inter Varsity League has also kicked off with the first leg being held by Dublin City University (DCU). Last season University College Dublin (UCD) claimed the title ending the run of Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT) who had won the previous 4 years in a row. In a team of 5 format, with seniors shooting a FITA 18 and with up to 1 compound allowed to be included, DIT's 2458 was just enough to see off a 2454 from DCU. Galway-Mayo led the chasing pack on 2295. No less than 118 archers from 10 universities took part, an IIVL record. Top individual performer (on a FITA 18) was Joe Gill (NUI Galway) with 536.
