SEALed with a kiss [13/Feb/09]

With all nine teams scheduled to be in action, it will be a busy Valentine's day weekend in SEAL and one that is likely to see the SEAL senior title remain in Guildford.

Surrey's narrow 17 point win over Imperial on Sat 31st Jan puts them in pole position to retain their SEAL senior title. Surrey's total of 2172 was led home by Matthew Sharpe and Matthew Brown who scored 566 and 552 respectively, Jordan Muscatello firing 562 in reply for Imperial. Reading were a very long way behind in third. The two results mean Surrey's seniors sit on a maximum 9 points with one match still to play. Surrey have certainly done things the hard way in this campaign, beating London/ULU by 34, then Kent by only 5, before this win over Imperial.

London scored 1964 to beat Reading and Brunel on Sat 7th Feb. Reading just missed out on 1800 and Brunel were under 1700 despite having the top score in the match, a 544 from Marc Bibby.

If Surrey win their final fixture against Brunel and Essex they will win the title - if they finish second it's calculators at the ready. This match is scheduled for Sun 15th Feb. Meanwhile Imperial against Kent and London is also scheduled for Sun 15th Feb. This looks likely to be a straight fight for second third and fourth positions. The other match scheduled for this coming weekend is Southampton v Reading v Sussex.

In the equivalent novice matches, Imperial finished 100 clear of Surrey who were 200 clear of Reading. London won easily against Brunel, while Reading fielded only one novice. London's score was just over 1300 as against Imperial's score of just over 1200. These two results leave London top of the table on 7 points, with Surrey, Essex, Imperial and Southampton all on 6 points. Essex, Imperial and Southampton have a game in hand (against each other) and all have two wins from two matches, but scores suggest that both Kent and London could yet have a big say in where the SEAL novice title ends up.
