New Stuff for the New Season [15/Sep/08]
As some of you may have seen, over the summer, the British Universities Sports Association (BUSA) merged with the University College Sport (UCS) to form British Universities and Colleges Sport or BUCS to provide one unified governing body for British student sport. The BUCS website is www.bucs.org.uk. Aaron Campbell is still the Sports Programme Manager for archery at BUCS. His new email address is Aaron.Campbell@@bucs.org.uk.
Huddersfield, Essex and Kent have been confirmed as joining the regional league set up with NEUAL and SEAL respectively. This should bring both leagues up to an impressive nine competitive teams, the first time SEAL has been at this level. There are also new league organisers for SEAL and SWWU with Tom Wiblin (Surrey) tw00016@@surrey.ac.uk and Jess Buckner (Exeter) jlb213@@exeter.ac.uk taking over.
There will also be a new interview with Shelley Hurst, formerly, but still very much involved with Bradford.
Also the first round of the new ELeague season has already started. Scores shot in September or October must be entered by Wednesday 5th November to count in round 1. The full list of promotions and relegations is available on the ELeague website. Loughborough and Surrey were promoted into Senior Division 1, Warwick and Napier into Novice Division 1, Warwick and Derby into Compound Division 1.
I haven't yet mentioned the most important new things at this time of year, the new wave of freshers about to crash over the clubs. At this crucial time of year with dozens of potential new members and stars of the future being unearthed, spare a thought for Napier. The SUS Novice League champions saw their home venue demolished over the summer, with the replacement being unavailable until at least 2010. Another venue which had provisionally agreed to host them has now pulled out, leaving the club homeless with time ticking away.
