League Calendars take shape [16/Nov/21]

As (sort of) predicted in a previous editorial, scores in SSS have increased as the novices who appear in almost all the senior team totals have improved in the fortnight between matches 1 and 2. Heriot-Watt however have still come out on top, this time with a healthier 2071, increasing their margin over St Andrews, who were second again, from 19 to 56. St Andrews' 2015 was 30 ahead of Strathclyde who were third on 1985. Rebecca Leigh (Aberdeen) top scored in the match on 570 - Aberdeen were fourth of 1890. Elsewhere in the match Yohann Renault (St Andrews) scored 565.

Having waited nearly 20 years for a SSS-wide match win, Heriot-Watt have now done so twice in a fortnight and they are top on 30 league points, St Andrews are second on 28 and Aberdeen third on 25. UWS' sixth place in the match is their best single match result since joining the league in 2015/16.

Edinburgh dominated the novice match with 1423. Dundee were best of the rest on 1292 and they join Heriot-Watt in second place in the overall table. Tom Storey (Edinburgh) scored 539, a very strong score so early in the year. Benjamin Lawrence (St Andrews) was top compound on 580 and the Fifers were the only club to field 2 compounds.

See SSS 2021/22 page for the latest standings. SSS match 3 is on Sat 20th Nov and the round used will be a Worcester. Also that weekend will be SEAL match 1 and two-thirds of BUTTS match 1. In SEAL, London won't be shooting before Christmas as they are involved in discussions around the adoption of the club with University of London. Royal Holloway have had issues with hall access and equipment and will miss match 1.

The remaining third of BUTTS match 1 will take place on Sunday 28th November, alongside SWWU match 2. NEUAL will run a postal match at the end of the month. The league will move to the split venue all vs all format rather than the separate Conference match structure. It looks like Manchester Met and Salford have both returned to life - both had disappeared prior to Covid - and there is a fully fledged club at Manchester.
