BUTTS match 2 kick-starts '22 [26/Jan/22]

Warwick held off the challenge from Nottingham and Oxford to take maximum points in BUTTS match 2, see the results and updated table on the BUTTS 2021/22 page. Meanwhile BUCS have issued a corrected list of accepted entries and venue distribution for the BUCS Indoor qualifiers in February. Held over the weekends of the 15th and 22nd of January, BUTTS is the first regional league in action in 2022. Warwick shot a total of 2305, led home for the second match by the Woodgates - James with 592 and Chris with 575 plus a 573 from James Gardner. The highest scorer of the match however was Louisa Piper (Nottingham) with 594. This propelled Nottingham into second place overall, with support from Hannah Evans on 571. Oxford were third on 2275 - exactly 30 points covered the top 3, with the gap to 4th placed Birmingham just over 100. Yang Pei (Oxford) and So Chun Ngai Ugo (Birmingham) both scored 581. A further seven archers scored in the 560s: Sam Walby (Oxford) scored 567. Working their way down a point at a time from 565 are, Wills Chiu (Warwick), Adam Bates, Callum Henfrey (both Oxford), Max Harding (Nottingham), James Ireland (Warwick) and Dominic Kelsey (Nottingham).

Loughborough's novices hit top spot in the match, edging 11 points ahead of Birmingham, with a team of 4 novice scores of 1908 against 1897. Nottingham were third on 1861, with Warwick fourth. Top individual novice was John Wong (Birmingham) who was one shy of 500.

Two BUTTS league records were broken on the women's side with senior recurve Louisa Piper (Nottingham) and novice longbow Katie Axup (Loughborough) scoring 594 and 366 respectively - only 2 and 7 short of the All Unis records.

In terms of the tables, Warwick now lead the senior table with a maximum 18. Oxford have 15, with Nottingham, now on 14, overtaking Loughborough. Loughborough's novices however, overtook Nottingham to lead the novice table 17 to 16, with Birmingham on 15. BUTTS

The next BUTTS fixture is a division 2 fixture on Sat 29th Jan, hosted by Leicester who were the most recent winners of this parallel mini-league. SSS match 4 at Heriot-Watt is the same day. The next main BUTTS division match is on the weekend of 5th/6th February and will be hosted by Derby, Cambridge and Birmingham.
