Warwick won BUTTS league match 1, whilst Bristol were the winners of SWWU match 2. Warwick will also host BUCS Indoors National Finals 2022 on Sat 19th Mar, see the BUCS Indoor section. Bristol, Napier, and Manchester Met host the Southern, Northern (both Sat 26th Feb) and Central (Sat 19th Feb) qualifying events.
The Pre-Qualifying Scores are unchanged from 2020, with senior recurves needing a score of 400 and novices needing 277. The comparable compound scores are 481 and 336, see the full list of pre-qualifying scores here. The entry deadline is Tue 18th Jan 2022.
Warwick's winning score in this match was 2290 - virtually unchanged from the 2292 by the same club in their final BUTTS league score pre-lockdown. One hundred points covered the top 5 as Oxford were second on 2259, Loughborough on 2240, Nottingham on 2227 and Cambridge on 2191, completing the leading group. Warwick were led home by the Woodgates, with a 592 from James and 570 from Chris. Ben Evans (Loughborough) notched 577 and Yang Pei (Oxford) with 575 were the other 570+ scores in the match. There were 9 archers in the 560s, including 568 from Wills Chiu (Warwick), just ahead of matching 567s from Hannah Evans and Max Harding (both Nottingham). Sam Walby (Oxford) scored 565 and Ffion Edgeley (Loughborough) 562, ahead of 4 archers who scored exactly 560 - Hannah Burnage (Warwick), Zoe Harley (Oxford), Sean Seet and Eleanor Brug (both Cambridge).
Nottingham won the novice match with a novice team of 4 score of 1832, featuring 493 from top individual novice Chau Ho Yin. Loughborough were second on 1758, with Birmingham a close third.
Soberingly for the other 4 leagues, Cambridge's senior team tally of 2191 was enough for a mid-table 5th place here, but a full 60 points higher than any score any other club has managed so far this season.
Plymouth were the hosts of SWWU match 2, the most southerly venue on the regional circuit. It was Bristol who came out on top on the south cost, with 2128. League leaders Cardiff were second thanks to a score of 2090. Exeter were a distant third, just missing out on 2000, nearly 100 points further back. Alex Rowe (Plymouth) was top score in this match on 584, with Will Black (Bristol) on 577 - forty points clear of the field. Exeter were comfortable winners in the novice match, and had the top individual Luke Burch who scored 478.
Cardiff's lead at the top of the senior table has increased to 2 points over Exeter, 19 to 17. Cardiff have never won the SWWU league title - their best finish was 3rd in 2015/16. Bristol fielded an incomplete team in match 1, so the match 2 win lifts them from 6th to 4th, level on 15 points with third placed Bath. In the novice table, Swansea and Exeter are co-leaders with 19 points.
SWWU reconvenes in Swansea on Sat 4th Dec, whilst BUTTS is now done until the new year. For the current tables, see BUTTS 2021/22 page, the SWWU 2021/22 page.
