Having scored 2236 in the very first BUTTS match of the season and still lost by 40 points, Loughborough were presumably not looking forward to going up against Nottingham again only a fortnight later in Birmingham. However the Leicestershire side produced an excellent performance, with three scores in the 570s for an overall team total of 2272. This time, Nottingham were unable to reproduce their earlier form and slipped to 2218. Hosts Birmingham shot 2176 with barebow heavy Derby adrfit in fourth on 1603. Nottingham did win the novice match.
For the second week running Matt Cole (Warwick) and Stefan Schoppmann (Nottingham) top scored for their respective clubs, this time, both notching 576. However additional low 570s from Alex Hill and BUCS SMG Chair James Cowie meant Loughborough were able to rack up a 54 point winning margin. Elsewhere in the match Jack Bryant scored 567 for Birmingham. The result means that both Loughborough and Nottingham have 7 league points, however Loughborough's aggregate over their 2 matches is 4508, narrowly ahead of Nottingham's two-match total of 4496. Were neither side to lose again then BUTTS Indoor Champs would become a winner takes all showdown.
Elsewhere, ELeague round 1 results were released last week, featuring scores shot in September and October. In senior recurve division 1, Edinburgh bagged maximum points, with Nottingham in second and Loughborough third, Warwick fourth. Lancaster were the top A side in Division 2. Matt Sharpe (Surrey) collected a maximum individual points with George Harding (Nottingham) second, Matt Dale (Warwick) third and Matthew Cole (Loughborough) fourth completing the leading group. Edinburgh produced a ladies recurve 1-2-3 as Sarah Roth pipped Kyshiea George-Steele to first, with Naomi Jones not far behind, but with a 20 point margin over fourth place.
The score required to finish 20th individually and thus gain 1 point for recurve was 550 for gents and 356 for ladies. Although this result is always at its most extreme in September/October when fewest scores tend to be submitted, it still makes for depressing reading.
The stand out results in the non-recurve categories were Amyce Smith-Bannister (Bath) who scored 505 in ladies barebow and Chris White (Edinburgh) who scored 455 in gents longbow. Top recurve novices in round one were Edinburgh duo Guy Conlon and Migle Petruskeviciute.
Scores for the November round of the ELeague must be submitted to the ELeague website by Saturday 5th December.
Results from Dundee v St Andrews v Strathclyde and Keele v Huddersfield v Leeds will be published as soon as they are available.
