BUTTS match 1 and SSS match 2 were held over the 9th/10th November. Most of the full results from BUTTS match 1 have been released, although not quite all so this fixture will be reviewed separately. Warwick were first ahead of Birmingham, then Loughborough, then Nottingham.
Student National Rankings results have been re-issued, with a few corrections, most notably gents recurve. William Pike and team mate Sherman Ip (both Warwick) are now confirmed as having come second and third. Full results are available on UKSAA Facebook page.
SSS match 2 co-hosts St Andrews stormed to victory, notching 2269 in a dominant display that was up by 84 points on the previous fortnight. The top three archers in the match were all from St Andrews: Yohann Renault and Paul Ross fired in matching 581s, with Jake Haycocks contributing 567. Napier were second on 2209, with Edinburgh third on 2166. Andreas Nicolaou and Andrew Smith (both Napier) shot 562 and 560 to ensure Napier were relatively comfortable in second spot despite a 566 from Natasha Homer (Edinburgh). Behind the leading trio, 4th to 7th all finished in the same order as match 1, with Strathclyde best of the rest on 2077 and Aberdeen rounding out the top half on 1973. Top individual was Guillaume Andreiux (Glasgow) who scored 591.
After two matches, St Andrews and Napier both have 29 points, but the Fife side have a superior match aggregate (4454 to 4400) and sit top. Edinburgh are third, three points back and with three matches still to go. See SSS 2019/20 page. St Andrews' 2269 is the highest score shot in a SSS match since February 2017.
Napier won the novice match with 1285. Consistent team scores meant they won by nearly 70. This was up by nearly a point per arrow (177) and 3 positions up on match 1. Edinburgh were second, with Strathclyde third, for whom David Tranter was the top novice in the match overall. Both sides were just above 1200. Abertay were fourth on 1122 to register their best ever SSS match placing, senior or novice. Four teams are now within 2 points at the top of the novice table.
No less than nine clubs contested the compound match. Edinburgh won from St Andrews, with Beth Martel (Edinburgh) top compound in the match on 580. As a result, Edinburgh now top the compound standings by a point from Strathclyde.
SSS match 3 will take place on 23rd Nov at Edinburgh and Dundee. The only fixtures on the Calendar this coming weekend (16/17 Nov) are the first set of NEUAL matches: E1 York v Sheffield v Huddersfield, W1 Chester v Manchester v Lancaster and N1 Sunderland v Teesside. Manchester will be making their NEUAL debut.
