Warwick, Birmingham lead BUTTS [03/Dec/19]

BUTTS league match 2 took place over the weekend of the 23rd/24th November in Loughborough, Birmingham and De Montfort. League tables and results are available in full on the BUTTS 2019/20 page.

Warwick took top spot with 2310 ahead of Birmingham's 2272. Birmingham were 38 behind Warwick and 38 ahead of Loughborough who were third on 2234. Nottingham were only 10 further behind in fourth. Behind the top 4 there was a gap of 90 points to Oxford. The Dark Blues were best of the rest on 2135 - the top 5 teams finished in the same order as in match 1. New club De Montfort were 6th, recording their first official BUTTS league match wins.

The top two scores in the match were exactly 590 from William Pike and exactly 580 from Sarah Allaway (both Warwick). Rebekah Tipping (Birmingham) and Eleanor Brug (Cambridge) shot 575s, with Jerry Atkins (Birmingham) and James Gardner (Warwick) both on 573. Ben Evans (Loughborough) added 570 to help his side to third, one point and one team place ahead of Max Harding (Nottingham).

Sam Armstrong (Warwick) completed Warwick's quartet on 567, with Philippa Taylor (Birmingham) on 565. Loughborough pair Chris Cooper and Arthur Coveney added 565 and 563, with Coveney's total all the more remarkable coming as it did from 58 hits. Jodie Green (Warwick) scored 561 with Lizzie Elmer (Nottingham) on 560.

In the novice match, Cambridge squeezed ahead of Birmingham and Warwick, with a team of 4 totals in the mid 1700s. Cambridge's was an improvement of over 230 points and 3 places in a fortnight. Clement Sorbier (Warwick) was top individual on 508.

With the top 5 senior teams in match 2 finishing in the same order as match 1, the senior league table looks as you might expect, Warwick leading Birmingham by 2 points. In the novice table, Birmingham lead Warwick by 2 points. Loughborough are third in the senior table. Cambridge jumped from 5th to 3rd in the novice table courtesy of that win.

BUTTS match 3 won't take place until after the new year.
