Three is the magic number [17/Oct/19]
BUCS brought in Regional Qualifying for the Indoor Championships in 2017. Since then, there have been two qualifying events, split along geographical lines as sensibly as possible, i.e. Northern and Southern.
For BUCS Indoors 2020, there will be a third Regional Qualifying event added, making it Northern, Central and Southern. Hosts will be Manchester Met (on Sat 15th Feb), Edinburgh Napier and Bristol (both Sat 22nd Feb). The National Finals will be in Warwick on Sat 14th Mar. Entry window and minimum pre-qualifying scores are in BUCS Indoor section.
The "new" Central Qualifer will be hosted by Manchester Met, aka MMU - this will be the first time a student event of this stature has visited the city. Napier hosted the equivalent Northern Qualifier event in 2019, but this was a 2 day affair to cope with numbers. After a 3 year stint at the K2 Crawley, the Southern Qualifier is moving to Bristol who previously hosted the National Finals of 2017 and 2018.
With 2 days' hall time in Edinburgh and only 1 in Crawley, 2019 necessitated universities as far south as Aberystwyth and Birmingham making quite a long trip to their local qualifier. The addition of the third regional qualifier should cut average travelling distances significantly and with the Finals in Warwick, the 4 events are spread over 4 different regional leagues.
Prior to 2017, BUCS Indoors was one event. Due to its increasing size, it had to move to Telford in 2012 and stayed there until 2016.
