Firstly a hat-trick of deadlines today:
Results for SSS match 4 have been published but only provisionally. Strathclyde appear to have won the fixture. This match will be reviewed separately. In NEUAL, match E4 was postponed, but W4 and N3 have not yet published results.
BUTTS match 3 results have been published. Warwick won the senior match and Oxford won the novice match. The match was split over two weekends, with Cambridge (20th Jan) and Nottingham Trent (27th Jan) on hosting duties.
Warwick's winning total of 2299 ment they missed out on 2300 by a single point, but the winning margin was 55. Birmingham were a further 60 or so points ahead of Nottingham, third back on 2183, with Oxford completing the top half of the card on 2159. A noticably understrength Loughborough side could only muster 2058. That was over 200 points down on their efforts in matches 1 and 2 (2271 and 2267), however the score was just enough for 5th place, so they stay a point ahead of Nottingham in the overall standings.
Warwick now have 24 points (from 3 firsts) and Birmingham have 21 points (from 3 seconds). With 2 matches left, Warwick are now slight favourites to win the BUTTS senior league crown for the 8th time, bringing them level with Cambridge in the all time standings. Loughborough's stumble in the match saw the race for third tighten up. Loughborough now have 16 points with Nottingham on 15 and Oxford on 14, see BUTTS 2018/19 page.
William Pike (Warwick) top scored in the match, well clear on 588. Rebekah Tipping and Christopher Avins (both Birmingham) scored matching 572's with Enrik Nako and Sherman Ip (both Warwick) on 575 and 570. Warwick also provided the fourth of the six archers to break 560 with 566 from James Jeffs.
In the parallel novice match, Oxford took top spot ahead of Birmingham, 1974 (team of 4) to 1939. Second to fifth were split by 39 points. Oxford haven't won any BUTTS wide novice fixtures since the all-vs-all format was introduced in 2010/11. The Dark Blues are up to third overall. Birmingham's overall lead has gone up to 4 points however as Derby were third ahead of Cambridge. Yang Ma (Birmingham) just edged out Sam Day (Cambridge) to top individual 536 to 534.
The next BUTTS fixture is a second Division 2 fixture to be hosted by Northampton on 2nd Feb. This will be the first time that there has been a second fixture in the same season and the first time such a fixture has not been hosted by De Montfort. The main BUTTS division reconvenes at Warwick and Derby the weekend after.
