The following is without question the most positive retraction in the history of the UKSAA website. It appears that rumours of Brunel Uni AC's demise may have been greatly exaggerated. Just under a fortnight ago, Brunel were definitely an ex-Club, as reported by this very website. Brunel's Students Union confirmed that the AC had vanished, as all the Club Officers had left with no successors. However they also confirmed that it has now been revived by new incoming members. Thus Brunel's info page has now been returned to the club directory, so best wishes to new President Diana Owusu-Ansah and her committee.
SEAL have confirmed that, like SUS, they will be moving to the split location format, as successfully pioneered by BUTTS last year. SEAL will have four normal legs, plus BUCS scores to be used as a fifth. Hosting constraints mean that matches will be split over three venues rather than two. The first round of fixtures will be held over the weekend of the 3rd/4th December at Imperial, Reading and London. After a few near misses, Southampton won this title for the first time last year, breaking the Imperial/Surrey duopoly.
More fixture news just announced - the first SWWU match will be at Exeter on Sat 26th Nov.
The first actual weekend of competition this season is a Scottish affair, with Strathclyde and Dundee the two hosts clubs on Saturday. SUS will have 4 league matches, with 10 points available for first place, 9 for second and so on. Defending champions Edinburgh are on a run of 45 consecutive senior team wins, (including league matches and chamionships) stretching back 9 years and start as heavy favourites.
NEUAL and BUTTS fixtures get started over the weekends of 12th/13th and 19th/20th November. BUTTS begins at Nottingham Trent and Loughborough, but is split across the successive weekends. NEUAL retains the more traditional match format with no fewer than 12 teams slated to take part. Keele begin the defence of their title against one of their closest rivals from last year, Lancaster.
