There were wins for Reading and Edinburgh in recent SEAL and SUS fixtures, with personnel changes for both sides resulting in very different wins.
Reading's score in the opening SEAL match in December was 1980 as they missed some of their top performers and finished 7th out of 8. At full strength however, the Berkshire club's score sky-rocketed to 2194 and they collected maximum points. Tom Castle and Anthony Tang notched 572 and 567 for Reading and kept them thirty points clear of Southampton and London. Sherman Ip (London) top scored in the match with 574 and this took his side's tally to 2163, one more than Southampton's 2162. This means that Southampton's overall lead remains at one point over London who are one clear of Imperial. Imperial were fourth in the match on 2121, with Hannah Beasley-Suffolk on 564. Matt Sharpe got 570 for Surrey as they were fouth, Essex fifth on 2051. Sussex and Kent were well adrift in the match on 1884 and 1740 respectively.
In the novice match, Southampton's 1432 was enough to win by 50, Surrey second on 1379, just ahead of London's 1357 and those three occupy the top three spaces in the table. Top novice in the match was Nimmit Prabhackar (Southampton) with 535.
Edinburgh sent some their "Blues" squad to a SUS League Match for the first time in several years, presumably with one eye on maintaining their 100% record. However despite their presence, Edinburgh recorded their first sub-2200 total of the SUS season with 2187. Second placed Napier were not able to exert much real pressure, finishing on 2113 despite 567 from Piotr Wojtczuk, the highest score in the match. Aberdeen were third with 2035, despite fielding only four archers, 560 from Johan Kangasniemi. Dundee were fourth on 1963, whilst Jamie Paton got 562 for Strathclyde who were fifth just under 1900. St Andrews beat Heriot-Watt, the pair finishing in the low 17s. Edinburgh, Napier and Aberdeen have now finished first, second and third in the opening three matches, so with one match to go, the league table looks much as you would expect.
In the equivalent novice match, Edinburgh posted a formidable 1571, whilst Napier's 1415 was best of the rest by a margin of nearly 300 points. Ben Arenas (Edinburgh) scored 537. Edinburgh have a five point lead in the novice table over Napier in second who have the same margin over third.
Bad weather means the third SEAL leg has become partially postal, with results hopefully available next week. The final SUS league matches take place at Dundee and Strathclyde this weekend - SUS Indoor Championship scores are not included in the SUS league table.
