Results for the second and third SWWU matches of the season have now been published. Match 2 was extracted from BUCS scores, whilst leg 3 was shot at Bath on 17th March. Bath took maximum points from both senior and novice matches and now lead in both tables.
In sad news, UKSAA has received confirmation that the club at Gloucestershire has folded, although bizarrely they did end up claiming a league point in match 2 thanks to a solo archer. The club seems to have never truly established itself, but it is still a great loss, not least to the SWWU league and it is to be hoped they are resurrected soon.
However, there is a new club emerging at Cardiff and as they shot at BUCS, their scores are included as guests in the match 2 totals. It appears as though they will take a full part in SWWU 2012/13 which would be a big boost to a league that has struggled with participation levels - both number of teams and number of archers per team - over the years.
Moving on to the matches themselves, Bath scored 2130 in Telford, to win match 2 by 60 points, with Alex Hickson on 557. Exeter's total of 2071 left them only just ahead of Swansea's 2051. Plymouth were fourth on 1831, with Gloucestershire's 580 all coming from Sean Evans. Other high scorers in the match were Rhodri Curnow (Swansea) on 568 and Shaun Mudd (Exeter) on 561. The novice match followed a similar pattern, with Bath clear on 1352, Exeter edging out Swansea 1291 to 1286, with Plymouth a little way behind on 1099.
In the third match in Bath, the home side ran out winner by a clear 100 points with 2153, including a 576 from Alex Hickson. Rhodri Curnow top scored again for Swansea with 563, ahead of Xi Yuan, whose 556 was the highest total for Exeter. Despite this Exeter narrowly beat Swansea again 2051 to 2028, with Plymouth in fourth, exactly 100 behind Swansea. In the novice match, Bath, Swansea and Exeter all finished within 35 points of each other. It took a score of 500 from lady barebow Alix Snell to push Bath to 1399, ahead of 1377 from Swansea and 1364 from Exeter, with Plymouth's all female novice team on 1245. Snell's score shredded the previous All Unis record by an enormous 27 points.
The results mean that Bath lead both SWWU senior and novice league tables, with match number 4 likely to be in Swansea towards the end of April.
In other SWWU-related news, Bath are hosting what will hopefully be the first of many British University Clout Championships. The competition is scheduled to take place on Sunday 29th April, with the closing date on Monday 16th April. The round is a Double One-Way GNAS Metric Clout, which means distances range from 110m up to 185m. Clout training will also form part of the day. More details, including the entry form are in the Other Fixtures section.
There was also a small additional correction to the results for Kent's novice team in SEAL leg 5, although there is no change to the overall results here.
