E-League early doors [07/Nov/13]

As the regional league season looms large, the E League season is already off and running. Results from Round 1, comprising September and October combined, have been published, see E-League section.

Bath were the winners of Round 1 in Senior Recurve Division 1, ahead of Southampton in second and defending champions Warwick in third place. Bath become only the 7th different club to win an E-League round. Cambridge were fourth, followed a string of BUTTS clubs. In Division 1, Edinburgh were the only team to enter no score and they start bottom of the table. In other divisions there were several other no scores, including current reigning double BUCS champions Nottingham and BUTC holders Oxford.

Obviously there is a long way to go, but in the individual standings, Alex Hickson (Bath) edged out Gareth Fleming (Queen Margaret) to maximum points in gents recurve, whilst Rebekah Tipping (Aberdeen) was clear winner in ladies recurve. Davi Simmons (Derby) and Mechelle Diamond (Napier) won the first round for novice recurves.

One remarkable performance, well four really, came from Emily Williams (South Wales) who is hoping to set up a club at her new university. Williams accrued a phenomenal 65 league points in total. She scored 530 in recurve for 7 points, 518 in barebow for 18 points, 566 in compound for 20 points, and 506 in longbow also for 20 points.

Scores for E League Round 2, November, must be submitted by Thursday 5th December.

As for physical leagues, this weekend the Scottish universities convene in Edinburgh and Strathclyde, whilst BUTTS clubs make the journeys to Cambridge and Nottingham. The first batch of NEUAL fixtures is spread across this weekend and the next one, with York, Keele, Bradford and Huddersfield on hosting duties.

Elsewhere, an announcement regarding BUTC hosting is expected shortly.
