BUTTS, SEAL... Lilleshall next [06/Jun/14]

With end of season final at Lilleshall now little more than a week away, the target list for BUCS Outdoors and the H2H Event have been published. All those who met the qualifying score requirement have been allocated a space.

Oxford claimed the senior BUTTS Outdoor Championships title - the competition was hosted by Loughborough on Sunday 26th May on a St George/Albion and Albion/Windsor. Meanwhile Surrey won the SEAL Outdoor H2H event.

Alexander Smith and Charlie Birch, with 854 and 810 anchored Oxford's winning total of 3061. Oxford have never won BUCS Outdoors but came within 23 points of Nottingham in finishing second last year and must be amongst the favourites for 2014. Behind Oxford, Loughborough narrowly pipped Warwick in to second place, 2941 against 2929. Curtis Tatner (Loughborough) and Tom Hall (Warwick) top scored on 780 and 781 with close support from Arthur Coveney (Loughborough) and Emma Davis (Warwick) 778 and 772. Nottingham Trent were fourth.

Birmingham won the novice team event with 2625, with Loughborough second on 2410 and Nottingham Trent third on 2357. Kate Carter (Loughborough) on 781 and Michael Gray (Nottingham Trent) on 762 were the top novices.

Three All Unis records were broken. Alexander Smith (Oxford) broke the gents recurve St George record with 854, beating Alex Hickson's (Bath) 836, shot only eight weeks previously. Luke Rieman (Warwick) added a round 50 to his own gents longbow St George record (shot at this event last year) with a score of 244. Meanwhile Harry Dean Lofthouse (Loughborough) beat the existing novice gents barebow Albion record scoring 566. The previous high was 565, shot two years ago by John Hodgson (also of Loughborough).

Also over the bank holiday weekend were the SEAL Outdoor Championships. These are held over a 70m/60m/50m round and H2H. There were relatively few teams in attendance, but Surrey fought back to beat Southampton in the final, having lost the first two ends. Andrew Howe (Southampton) and Amelie Aichinger (Surrey) were top individuals in qualifying. Reading beat Surrey in the novice final.

As for the organisation of these two leagues, Chris Guerin (Warwick) ends a successful two year spell in charge of BUTTS, Adam Peers (Loughborough) will take over for the 2014/15 season. Stephen Fawcett (Southampton) will carry on as SEAL organiser.
