The opening SSS league fixture of the season was hosted by Edinburgh and Strathclyde and produced a three way scrap for maximum points. Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Napier all went well over 2200 and finished within 20 of each other in one of SSS's highest scoring and most competitive ever fixtures. Edinburgh came out just in front with a total of 2241, only 14 ahead of Aberdeen whose 2227 was in turn only 5 ahead of Napier's 2222. See the current SSS standings.
Top scorer in the match was Piotr Wojtczuk (Napier) who scored 569. Veronique Heijnsbroek (Aberdeen) was one behind on 568 with Fraser Keir (Edinburgh) another point back on 567. Ben Tseng, Roy Hotrabhvanon (both Edinburgh), Rebekah Tipping and Simon Garrett (both Aberdeen) all shot mid 560s, with Graeme Black (Napier) one under 560, as the top three sides dominated.
St Andrews took fourth spot ahead of Strathclyde 2052 to 2031, with Dundee sixth, six short of 2000. Heriot-Watt were a distant seventh.
Edinburgh had a far more straightforward time in the novice match, scoring 1455 to win easily. Napier were best of the rest on 1272, well clear of Dundee who were third on 1082, themselves over 100 clear of fourth placed Strathclyde.
This was only the second senior team win in the last five SSS outings for Edinburgh. BUTTS match 1 team results have also come out and there will be a full editorial about them shortly. However it is worth noting that across the two matches the top 9 team scores were all within 30 points of each other. The road to Telford is long and at the moment, it is also tightly congested.
